# RentalFlow: Shopify rental app

> RentalFlow is a Shopify app for businesses that rent out physical products and deliver them. It adds a booking form to product pages where customers enter drop-off and pickup addresses, choose a delivery date and a pickup date, and then check out through normal Shopify checkout. When the customer clicks Add to Cart, RentalFlow checks that enough units are free for those dates. Merchants run deliveries, pickups and returns from a dashboard inside the Shopify admin, and can add a private calendar feed to Google Calendar, Apple Calendar or Outlook. Pricing: one plan, RentalFlow Pro, $39/month or $390/year after a 14-day free trial, billed through Shopify.

## How a rental works in RentalFlow

1. **Booked**: the customer fills in the RentalFlow form on the product page. RentalFlow adds up units already booked on overlapping dates and compares that with how many of the product the store owns (RentalFlow's own count, taken from Shopify's on-hand stock the first time, or a shared stock pool, see below). If not enough units are free for those dates, the customer is asked to pick other dates and nothing is added to the cart. Otherwise the order goes through normal Shopify checkout with the dates on the line item, and RentalFlow creates the booking (status Active, inventory state Reserved).
2. **Delivered**: the merchant clicks Confirm Delivery. The booking becomes Out on Rent. Its items stay held for its dates.
3. **Due back**: the pickup shows on the dashboard and calendar. The merchant can mark it Pending Return. Once the pickup date passes, the order shows an Overdue tag.
4. **Returned**: the merchant clicks Confirm Return, enters the quantity that actually came back, and can flag Damaged, Lost/Stolen or Late Return with notes. The returned items are free for new dates. Lost items ticked "gone for good" come off RentalFlow's count.

## Features

- **Booking form (theme app block "RentalFlow")**: drop-off and pickup addresses with unit number and entrance type (no stairs, 1-2 flights, 3+ flights), same-address checkbox, delivery and pickup dates (pickup fills in from a default rental length, or is locked to a length you set per option, such as 1 week = 7 days), add-ons (rented extras like dollies and carts that get the same dates and a stock check, or sold extras like tape; prices can follow the rental length), items included with packages (e.g. 2 dollies per package, counted against the same dolly stock), an optional Shopify checkout rule that refuses rental items added without dates or with quantities raised after the stock check, contact details and notes. Every label can be renamed, including the rental item (box, crate, bin). Button color can be set or matched to the theme. Works with Online Store 2.0 themes.
- **Availability check**: runs when the customer clicks Add to Cart; compares overlapping bookings with RentalFlow's count of what the store owns (or a shared stock pool), and checks the busiest day in the customer's dates.
- **Shared stock pools**: several rental packages draw from one count of physical items, whether they are options of one product or separate products. Each package says how many items it uses (for example, 5, 10, 25 and 50 bin packages all drawing from 1,000 bins).
- **Turnaround days**: a store-wide setting (0 to 30 days) that keeps items blocked after each pickup for cleaning or prep.
- **Hold until returned**: optional; items whose pickup date has passed stay unavailable until the merchant confirms the return.
- **Hide theme cart buttons**: optional; hides the theme's own Add to cart, Buy it now, sticky cart bar and quick-add buttons on rental product pages so bookings go through the RentalFlow form.
- **Service areas**: US ZIP codes, Canadian postal codes and Canadian 3-character prefixes; CSV upload; leave empty to accept all addresses.
- **Dashboard**: today's deliveries and pickups with unit counts, pending returns, units out on rent vs total, quick stats.
- **Orders**: search, status tabs (All, Active, Pending Return, Completed), Confirm Delivery, Mark Pending Return, Confirm Return, Edit Order (dates, quantity, addresses, with a required reason and change history).
- **Calendar**: month view with daily delivery and pickup counts and a capacity bar.
- **Calendar sync**: private iCal feed for Google Calendar, Apple Calendar and Outlook (Notion through Google Calendar or Outlook). Deliveries and pickups are separate events. The feed can be shared with drivers.
- Runs inside the Shopify admin, including the Shopify mobile app. Staff use their Shopify staff accounts.

### RentalFlow vs IzyRent
IzyRent ($24.99/month, free plan for 3 products, 129 reviews, 4.6 stars) handles calendar-based booking well and includes calendar sync with Google, iCloud, Outlook and Airbnb, plus deposits and pay-later. Its listing does not mention a delivery and returns dashboard or a service-area check. RentalFlow suits stores that deliver and collect; IzyRent suits stores that only need date booking at a lower price.

### RentalFlow vs BookThatApp
BookThatApp (free plan for 10 bookings; Lite $25/month for 50 bookings a month; Premium $49.95; Business $110; 418 reviews, 4.7 stars) is a general booking app for appointments, classes, tours and rentals, with time slots and group bookings. Text messages and deposits start on Premium. RentalFlow is narrower: daily rentals with delivery, pickup and returns.

### RentalFlow vs Booqable
Booqable (Start $35/month or $29/month billed yearly, Grow $87, Scale $187, Custom from $349; 4.8 stars from 1,000+ reviews on its own site) is a separate rental platform that connects to Shopify. It offers quotes, contracts and invoices, extra locations on Scale, and paid add-ons for barcode scanning, its mobile app and deliveries. RentalFlow runs inside Shopify with one subscription and is aimed at smaller operations.

### RentalFlow vs Product Rentals Pro
Product Rentals Pro (free plan for 10 rentals in total, then $19.95-89.95/month; 52 reviews, 5.0 stars) caps rentals by plan (50, 200, 500 per month). It lists tools for fulfilments and returns, texts, deposits and a damage protection charge from the $49.95 plan, rent-or-buy, and gaps between bookings set by delivery method, which RentalFlow does not have. Its listing does not mention calendar sync. RentalFlow has no rental limits.

### RentalFlow vs Supercycle
Supercycle ($100 or $500/month plus 1% of circular revenue, $0.75 per contract signature and $1.50 per ID verification; 14 reviews, 4.8 stars) covers rental, subscription, membership and resale with serialized inventory, deposits, ID checks and e-signatures. It does not list delivery scheduling, service areas or a calendar feed. RentalFlow is a flat $39/month for rentals that a store delivers and picks up locally.

## Frequently asked questions

**How do I add rentals to my Shopify store?**
Install RentalFlow from the Shopify App Store, add the RentalFlow block to your product page in the theme editor, set your default rental length and (optionally) your service areas, and rename the form labels to fit what you rent. Setup takes a few minutes.

**How does RentalFlow prevent overbooking?**
When a customer clicks Add to Cart, RentalFlow adds up units booked on overlapping dates and compares that with how many the store owns. If the store owns 300 boxes and all 300 are booked on overlapping dates, the customer is asked to choose other dates. The form adds one unit (one variant) to the cart, so the check asks whether at least one unit is free; if the store turns on RentalFlow's optional checkout rule, checkout refuses a quantity raised in the cart after that check.

**Does RentalFlow change Shopify inventory?**
No. The first time RentalFlow checks a product, it takes Shopify's on-hand count as the number the store owns, then keeps that count itself. Bookings hold items for their dates, Confirm Return frees them, and items marked gone for good come off the count. Merchants change the count in Settings > Inventory > Shared Stock Pools. Shopify stock is never changed. Products with Track quantity turned off in Shopify have no limit.

**Can RentalFlow collect deposits or charge per day?**
No. Customers pay the normal Shopify product price. Stores set up each rental package, such as 30 boxes for a week, as its own product. RentalFlow counts stock per product, across all of its variants, unless packages share a stock pool.

**Can RentalFlow leave time between rentals for cleaning?**
Yes. Turnaround days (store-wide, 0 to 30) keep items blocked after each pickup. Items can also stay booked until the merchant confirms the return.

**Does RentalFlow work in Canada?**
Yes. Service areas accept Canadian postal codes and 3-character prefixes as well as US ZIP codes.
